As an AW11 MK1 MR2 owner, I have found that finding aftermarket parts for this kind of car that are not OEM has proven rather challenging. The MK2 and MK3 have a lot of aftermarket support, but the MK1 is the neglected kid of the family. Understandably. The MK1 is usually purchased at such a low price that quite often, justifying a $500 aftermarket part or even a cheap $1,000 paint job seems pointless. Hence, not much in way of aftermarket support.
Then there are those select individuals who could be described as obsessed. Those who will stop at nothing to be different among the crowd of MK1 owners. Those who desire to have more support and options for their beloved MK1s.
I have owned a total of 4 MK1 cars, not to include a parts car I dismantled. It wasn't until the 3rd one that I started this infatuation, but that car was short lived. Years later I revisited it again with the current car, but have progressed with it much further than the others combined. I had no real interest in carbon fiber (CF) products, that is, until I came across one rare piece from a local seller by the name of Bernie.
History
Bernie was selling me a rare rear engine lid that I wanted and mentioned he had a CF trunklid he would throw in. I honestly wasn't really interested, until he brought it out. First thing I thought was, it is black and it is LIGHT! Then I put it on my car and I changed 100% to become fascinated with the look of CF. The search was on to see just what kind of available CF products I could find. Aside from a CF front trunklid for the MK1, there were no real existing suppliers of MK1 CF parts.
Belonging to MR2OC.com, I searched around for CF parts. There were a LOT of people talking about group buys, a few that could hand make a few parts, but again, nothing really solid. I decided to see what I could do to truly give a credible start to the MK1 CF venture.
Here it is – mr2parts.net. This site will be mainly focused on the development of CF parts for the MK1 MR2, but includes MK2 and MK3 CF parts. This site will also sell some other random, various parts for the MK1. Honestly, who knows where it is going to go! But the core of this site is CF parts made for the MK1 from a variety of sources.
With that, be sure to contact me if you are a source...you are the people we need for our MK1 MR2s!
